College Guidance Overview

The college guidance program helps students identify colleges and universities that best match their needs and abilities, and assists them through the college admissions process.  The advisor encourages students to pursue the strongest academic program appropriate for them and to develop a special talent or interest beyond the classroom.

Although the “formal” college search begins during the junior year, the process truly begins when a student enters Trinity Collegiate School in the seventh grade. Foreign Language 1A in seventh grade and Foreign Language 1B, Algebra, and English in eighth grade earn the student high school credits with a minimum grade of a "B" earned in the courses.  Beginning with the transition to Upper School, our teacher advisors, headmaster, and college advisor work with students to select the appropriate courses that maximize their potential.  A “College Night” Program is given in the spring for students and parents on the college admissions process.  All upper school students are required to attend.

Eighth, ninth and tenth grade students are encouraged to concentrate on establishing their academic record.  Late Fall of the tenth grade is the appropriate time to review standardized test scores.  PSAT results provide information that can be used to help improve performance on subsequent tests. Spring of the tenth grade is also a good time to begin visiting college campuses.
