College Entrance Testing:
Policies and Recommendations

It is important to check each college’s testing requirements.  Most colleges require either
the SAT or the ACT and will take the highest score from either test.  Most schools will take the highest verbal and highest math scores from multiple SAT exams and combine
them for the best score or ‘super score’.  Presently, there is no combination of scores for the ACT.  ACT scores from the test date with the highest composite score are used.

  1. The ACT is administered by The American College Testing Program, www.act.org or www.actstudent.org
  2. The SAT is administered by the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) www.collegeboard.com
  1. Trinity Collegiate School’s CEEB Code 410759 is used to register for the SAT and ACT.
  2. It is the student’s and/or parent’s responsibility to register for the appropriate tests on the desired date. Registration can be completed online. Registration materials are available in the College Counseling office.
  3. SAT and ACT scores DO NOT appear on transcripts. Colleges require that students have official scores sent directly by the College Board or ACT.
  4. When you plan a sequence of testing, please consider factors such as athletic commitments, social engagements, and family travel when deciding what dates are best for you.

Trinity Collegiate Recommended Standardized Testing Schedule

Students should stay informed regarding the dates of national tests. The College Counseling office recommends the following schedule for our students:

9th Grade March All students take the EXPLORE, which is a preliminary version of the ACT (administered by TCS).
10th Grade October All students take the PSAT (administered by TCS).
11th Grade October All students take the PSAT again (administered by TCS).
2nd Semester We recommend taking the SAT twice.  For example: January or March, and again in June. Also, take the ACT twice.  For example:  February, and again in April or June.
May/June Many students should consider taking SAT II*:  Subject Tests right after completion of their courses.
12th Grade September/October Students should take the ACT if they can benefit from improving their scores (selective college placement or scholarship opportunities).
November/December If necessary, students can take the SAT and/or ACT or SAT II*: Subjects Tests required by colleges.

* For information about SAT II Subject Tests
visit the College Board’s website www.collegeboard.com.

SAT Question-and-Answer Service

The Question-and-Answer Service (QAS) provides your test questions, the correct answers, scoring instructions, and a form to use to order a copy of your answer sheet.
For all the questions, you get the question type; level of difficulty; and whether you answered correctly, incorrectly, or omitted the answer.

QAS is offered for only the Saturday tests in October and January. In May, it is offered for the Saturday and Sunday tests, and for students eligible for accommodations that require school-based testing dates.

Please note: In many cases, QAS materials may not arrive until after the next scheduled test date. Keep this in mind if you plan to use the materials to prepare for retesting.

Ordering Information

You can order QAS when you register for the test, or when you receive your SAT scores. QAS can be ordered up to five months after the test date. If you didn't order QAS with your registration, just download and submit the Answer Reporting Services Order Form (.pdf/136K).

QAS materials are mailed six to eight weeks after the test. If you order QAS after you test, we will mail materials six to eight weeks after we receive your request.

Fees

The fee for the service is $18. With QAS, you can also order a copy of your answer sheet for an additional fee of $25. QAS is not refundable once the service has been fulfilled.
If you are using a fee waiver to register for the SAT, you can order QAS at no charge, as long as you do so when you register
